Risa Kobayashi began her ballet training at the age of three in her hometown of Tokyo. In 2009, she moved to Canada to continue her pre-professional training. She spent her summers dancing at the Joffrey Ballet School, Arts Umbrella, the St. Louis Ballet, and the Okanagan Summer Dance Intensive, and is a graduate of the Victoria Academy of Ballet.
Risa joined Ballet Victoria as an apprentice in 2011, and moved up the ranks to become a principal dancer with the company where she continues to dance today.
She has taught and coached students of all ages at several ballet schools in Japan and began teaching at the Ballet Victoria Conservatory in 2016. Risa is passionate about passing on her knowledge and inspiring students.
